In Science this week, Year Six have been learning about interdependence within given ecosystems. To fully understand this ecological concept Mr Schmidt took the children to the common where they engaged in the (rather wet) challenge of passing on and conserving ‘energy’. The pupils worked in four groups: producers, primary consumers (herbivores), secondary consumers (omnivores and carnivores) and tertiary consumers or apex predators. Through Outdoor Education and kinaesthetic learning, the pupils were able to fully understand these intricate relationships.
