We ended our first half term in the Upper School with a thoroughly enjoyable and challenging design technology day. The whole school gathered in the morning to hear the extraordinary adventures of George Bullard- a modern day, record breaking explorer. Leaving the children with a renewed passion for the outdoors, he set them the challenge of designing a new sled for his up and coming ‘Dark Ice Project’. There was no shortage of enthusiasm as mixed groups set upon the task of designing and creating a prototype sled. Using George’s expert tips, research and ingenuity, the pupils worked towards the testing and judging phase. With the miracle of modern technology, George was beamed onto the big screen live from the Serpentine to give his final verdict on the best designed sled and to choose the top 5 designs to make it through to the testing phase. This phase involved a multi-terrain track pulled by a cable and pulley system. There was great drama and excitement as the winners in the various categories were announced. In the end, Team ‘Snow Extreme’ won both George’s choice and the terrain challenge. A third prize went to Team ‘Sledy’ for the most beautiful design.
